IMG 9146 The NaijaWide NewsThe Nigerian gospel music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular gospel singer Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, widely known by her stage name Omije Ojumi.

According to reports, the singer passed away on Tuesday after battling a long-term illness linked to a leg ailment. Her death comes months after she openly sought prayers and divine intervention from the public over her deteriorating health.

Viral Prayer Video Resurfaces

Earlier in 2025, Omije Ojumi’s health struggle gained widespread attention after a video from a church service at G. F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, went viral on social media.

In the footage, the gospel minister was seen seated with her affected leg stretched out while members of the congregation offered fervent prayers on her behalf. During the service, a cleric disclosed that she had been experiencing persistent bleeding from the leg, prompting intense intercessory prayers.

From Banking to Gospel Music Stardom

Omije Ojumi rose to fame in the early 2000s after making a bold decision to leave a successful banking career to fully pursue gospel music.

Her stage name, Omije Oju Mi—meaning “Tears of My Eyes”—was taken from her debut album, which brought her widespread recognition and endeared her to gospel music lovers across Nigeria.

A Legacy of Worship Songs

Throughout her career, Omije Ojumi released several impactful gospel albums, including Dabira, Alatilehin, Ma Sunkun Mo, and Testimony. She also served as the leader of the Omije Ojumi Gospel International Music Band, through which she ministered across churches and gospel events.

Her passing marks a significant loss to the gospel music community, with fans and fellow ministers remembering her for her soul-stirring songs, faith-filled lyrics, and inspiring life journey.

She later released several acclaimed gospel albums, including Dabira, Alatilehin, Ma Sunkun Mo, and Testimony, which further solidified her place in the industry. Beyond her solo career, she led the Omije Ojumi Gospel International Music Band, ministering through music across churches and gospel events.

Renowned for her unique blend of traditional and contemporary gospel sounds, Omije Oju Mi earned a devoted fan base with deeply inspirational songs focused on faith, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God. Her death represents a profound loss to the Nigerian gospel music community, leaving behind a legacy of worship and spiritual impact that will not be forgotten.
