Nigeria have secured a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday evening.
The Super Eagles delivered an assured and disciplined performance in the quarter-final clash, controlling large spells of the encounter and neutralising the threat of the Desert Foxes.
First-Half Dominance, No Breakthrough
Head coach Eric Chelle set his team up aggressively, and Nigeria dominated possession and territory for most of the first half. Despite creating several openings, the Super Eagles were unable to convert their chances before the break.
Nigeria came closest when Calvin Bassey saw his goal-bound effort dramatically cleared off the line by the Algerian defence.
Osimhen Inspires Second-Half Breakthrough
The breakthrough arrived after the restart. Star striker Victor Osimhen rose highest to head home a precise cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, giving Nigeria a deserved lead.
Osimhen later turned provider, laying on a well-timed assist for Akor Adams, who calmly finished to seal the win and confirm Nigeria’s passage into the last four.
Semi-Final Clash With Hosts
The victory means the three-time African champions will now face tournament hosts Morocco in the semi-finals, with a place in the AFCON 2025 final at stake.
Nigeria’s confident display against Algeria has further strengthened belief among fans that the Super Eagles are serious contenders for continental glory in Morocco.
