The Ogun State Police Command has concluded plans to arrest and prosecute social media personality Mirabel following revelations that parts of her viral rape allegation may have been false.
Admission During Viral Call
Reports indicate that Mirabel, during a phone conversation with social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM), allegedly admitted that some details of her earlier claim were untrue.
A source explained:
“The DPO and some senior police officers are currently at the hospital where she is admitted. Once she is discharged, she will be taken into custody, and a charge will be prepared against her for trial. The essence is to serve as a deterrent to others.”
Background of the Allegation
Earlier, Mirabel had gone viral on TikTok, claiming that a stranger forced entry into her apartment in the Ogijo area of Ogun State and raped her. The allegation sparked widespread concern and social media attention, with thousands of users demanding justice under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen.
Police Statement
Reacting to the development, Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola said the command is reviewing the matter thoroughly and will issue an official statement in due course.
The case has reignited discussions on responsible reporting on social media, the consequences of false allegations, and the need for careful verification before publicizing sensitive claims.
Authorities have emphasized that legal action will proceed once Mirabel is medically cleared, reinforcing the message that false claims carry serious penalties under Nigerian law.
