The Rivers State Government has confirmed that the impeachment notice issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy has been successfully served.

The development follows an emergency plenary session held on Thursday by the Rivers State House of Assembly, during which lawmakers formally commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.
According to the Assembly, 26 members endorsed the move, accusing the governor of acts of misconduct alleged to be capable of undermining democratic governance in the state.

The impeachment notice, which was formally addressed to Governor Fubara, reportedly bears the signatures of at least 19 lawmakers, in line with constitutional requirements.
The document is said to outline eight allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor and his administration.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Rivers State House of Assembly confirmed that the notice had been delivered.
“The impeachment notice has been successfully served on the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara,” the post read.
