
Two Manchester United legends, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, are reportedly locked in a two-way race to become the club’s interim manager until the end of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, and director of football, Jason Wilcox, held separate discussions with both Solskjaer and Carrick on Tuesday.
However, the report adds that no final decision will be taken until a face-to-face meeting is held with the candidates.
Darren Fletcher to Take Charge Temporarily
In the meantime, former United midfielder
Darren Fletcher is expected to oversee the team for Wednesday night’s Premier League fixture against [Burnley].
It was also confirmed that former striker is no longer being considered for the interim role.
Previous Interim Roles
Solskjaer previously took charge of Manchester United on an interim basis in December 2018, following the dismissal of. His impressive start to that spell earned him the role on a permanent basis, where he remained in charge for nearly three years.
Similarly, Carrick stepped in as caretaker manager for three matches after Solskjaer was sacked in November 2021, overseeing a brief but steady transitional period.
Manchester United are expected to make a final decision on the interim appointment in the coming days.
