Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano State, describing the incident as “horrifying” and a tragedy that has shaken the nation.

The shocking murder, which sparked widespread outrage across the country, has once again raised concerns about the safety of innocent Nigerians, especially women and children, in their own homes.

“A Deep Sorrow in Our Hearts as a Nation”

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Peter Obi expressed deep sadness over the brutal killings, noting that the story has left an indelible pain on the collective conscience of Nigerians.

“The horrifying story of the murder of a housewife and her six children remains a deep sorrow in our hearts as a nation,” Obi wrote.

Peter Obi Commends Police for Swift Action

Despite condemning the crime, Obi praised the Nigeria Police Force for acting swiftly to arrest those responsible for the killings.

According to him, such decisive action shows what is possible when law enforcement agencies respond promptly and decisively.

“Police swift action is commendable. I would like to commend the Nigerian Police for their swift action, and I pray that they extend the same positive results to other areas of crime, such as kidnapping and banditry,” he stated.

Call for Consistency in Fighting Crime

Obi stressed that while the arrest of the suspects is encouraging, Nigerians need to see the same level of seriousness applied to other forms of violent crime ravaging the country.

He argued that consistency in law enforcement efforts would significantly reduce insecurity nationwide.

“If we continue to see such decisive actions from our law enforcement agencies, we will undoubtedly witness a significant decline in crime within our communities,” he added.

Public Reaction

The tragic killing has sparked emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for:

  • Speedy prosecution of the suspects
  • Justice for the slain mother and her children
  • Stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents

As investigations continue, the nation mourns yet another devastating loss of innocent lives, while renewed calls grow louder for sustained action against violent crime across Nigeria.

🕊️ Justice for the victims. Safety for all Nigerians.
