A heartbreaking tragedy has struck in Lagos as 56-year-old lawyer, Barrister Temitope “Temi” Odu, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, Christopher Odu, in front of their son.

According to multiple social media posts by activist @Toniabruisebutnotbroken, the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, sparking nationwide outrage over domestic violence and femicide in Nigeria.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Reports allege that Christopher Odu attacked and strangled his wife during a domestic dispute, while their son witnessed the horrifying event. Despite the severity of the crime, it was claimed that the husband was released by security operatives shortly after his arrest.

Family members have reportedly been informed that Mr. Odu is attempting to bury the deceased hastily, prompting urgent calls for intervention and justice.

Victim Was Breadwinner and Mother of Three

According to the activist’s report, Barrister Temi Odu, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025, endured over two decades of physical abuse from her husband before her untimely death.

She was described as the family’s breadwinner and had reportedly built their family home through her own efforts. She leaves behind three sons, who are now mourning their mother while seeking justice.

Calls for Justice and Accountability

Activist @Toniabruisebutnotbroken condemned the handling of the case by law enforcement agencies, calling it a reflection of systemic indifference toward domestic violence and femicide.

The activist and several women’s rights organizations are demanding:

The rearrest of Mr. Christopher Odu A halt to any funeral plans until proper investigations are conducted Protection for the victim’s children and access to legal support

Public Reaction

The shocking incident has sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians calling for swift justice and stronger enforcement of domestic violence laws.

“No woman deserves to die in silence. This is not just murder — it’s a failure of the system,” one X user wrote.
