President Bola Tinubu has approved sweeping changes in the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces, marking a significant shift in the nation’s defence command structure.

The announcement was made through a statement by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.

New Defence Chiefs Appointed

According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other key appointments include:

  • Major-General W. Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff

  • Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke – Chief of Air Staff

  • Rear Admiral I. Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff

Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue to serve as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Commends Outgoing Officers

President Tinubu praised the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure, expressing gratitude for their contributions to national security and unity.

He urged the new military chiefs to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity, emphasizing that the armed forces must remain united and alert in confronting the country’s evolving security challenges.

Appointments Take Immediate Effect

The Presidency confirmed that all appointments take immediate effect, signalling the start of a new chapter in Nigeria’s military command.

Security analysts view this development as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture and enhance inter-service coordination for improved national security.
