
Police in Abia State have launched a manhunt after a man identified as Chinedu Anamelechi allegedly killed his girlfriend’s sister and injured two other persons in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The incident happened in Umuanga Amakama community, where the suspect was accused of attacking multiple victims before fleeing the area.
Sources said the suspect, believed to be a local security operative, allegedly shot dead Ezinne Ariwodo, who was identified as his girlfriend’s sister.
He was also accused of stabbing his girlfriend and shooting another young man during the violent incident.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been confirmed.
The spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development in a statement.
According to her, police officers moved swiftly to the scene after receiving a distress report and found the deceased with gunshot injuries.
She added that the two injured victims were rescued and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy and preservation, while exhibits were recovered from the crime scene.
Police said calm has been restored in the community and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
Authorities also confirmed that investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.
