John Ameh, elder brother of the late Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje, has spoken out in an emotional interview, calling for renewed efforts to bring justice to his sister’s memory.

Speaking during a recent interview with Channels TV, Ameh said his family has been left emotionally shattered following the renewed public outcry for justice in Ochanya’s case.

“It’s traumatising. We’ve been retraumatised with the renewed call for justice in Ochanya’s case,” he said. “However, it’s also soothing to see support from Nigerians across diverse backgrounds. I’ve been inundated with calls from many people. It’s been a really challenging time for us as a family.”

“Justice Delayed Because We’re Not Influential” — Brother Laments

Expressing his frustration with the Nigerian justice system, Ameh suggested that his family’s lack of influence may have slowed down the legal process.

“If she were the daughter of a prominent person, would this be happening to her? Would this be happening to us as a family? Certainly not,” he stated.

He added that the tragic case of Ochanya highlighted deep-rooted inequality in how justice is served in Nigeria.

Appeal to President, First Lady, and IGP

Ameh made a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, and the Inspector General of Police to ensure those responsible for his sister’s abuse and death are held accountable.

“If the President, the First Lady, and the Inspector General of Police are truly in charge, they must find these people and bring them to justice, no matter how long it takes,” he said.

He emphasized that true leadership lies in protecting the vulnerable and ensuring justice is not reserved only for the privileged.

Support from Nigerians Offers Comfort

Despite the renewed emotional toll, Ameh expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by Nigerians.

“It’s comforting to see that Nigerians still care. The calls, messages, and encouragement have kept us strong,” he added.

He noted that while the family’s wounds have been reopened, the public support reminds them that the fight for justice continues to matter to many.

A Case That Shook the Nation

The tragic story of Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje first gained nationwide attention in 2018, after reports revealed that she died from complications resulting from prolonged sexual abuse.

Her death sparked national outrage, prompting protests and demands for accountability. Years later, her family insists that justice must prevail, regardless of how long it takes.
