The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that two pupils were abducted from St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area.

The Command described the viral claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

Hunters Mistaken for Kidnappers — Police Clarify Incident

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the alarm was raised around 10:00 am on November 21, 2025, after pupils reportedly fled upon sighting local hunters carrying Dane guns.

He explained:

“Our officers, alongside military personnel, responded swiftly to the scene and discovered that the pupils had only run away out of fear after seeing hunters with Dane guns. They mistakenly believed they were kidnappers.”

Security operatives immediately searched the surrounding area and restored calm within minutes.

The proprietor of the school also confirmed that no abduction took place and that the circulating information was entirely false.

Police Warn Against Spreading Unverified Information

CP Mohammed urged Nigerians—especially media platforms—to verify reports before publication to prevent unnecessary fear and misinformation.

He said:

“We urge the public to disregard this report as mere rumour. Journalists and social media users must always verify information to avoid misleading the public.”

Security Agencies Reassure Community, Increase Patrols

Authorities have assured parents and residents that the area remains under close surveillance, with routine police and military patrols continuing as a precautionary measure.

Residents have expressed relief following the clarification, noting the ease with which misinformation can disrupt schools and entire communities.

The Police Command again encouraged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement.
