The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has released a new update concerning its earlier announcement of a planned indefinite nationwide strike expected to begin on Friday, November 21.

In a statement posted on its official X (Twitter) handle on Friday, the union clarified that no official declaration of strike has been made.

This clarification comes three days after ASUU threatened to shut down all public universities across the country, citing the Federal Government’s failure to address its long-standing demands.

Addressing the situation, ASUU wrote:

“To whom it may concern, no official declaration of strike has been made.”

The union had previously rejected the Federal Government’s proposed 35% salary increase, insisting it does not meet their expectations or address core issues affecting university staff and the tertiary education system.

In October, ASUU suspended its earlier warning strike to resume negotiations with the Federal Government, but talks appear to have stalled, prompting renewed tension across campuses.
