The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, to appear before a panel of investigators on Monday in Abuja over a petition he submitted to the anti-graft agency.

Petition Targets Former NMDPRA Chief

Dangote had petitioned the ICPC against Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), alleging corruption and financial misconduct during his tenure.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a source within the Commission confirmed on Sunday that the ICPC has constituted a special panel to investigate the allegations contained in the petition.

Investigation Panel Set Up

The source disclosed that the ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, SAN, directed the panel to focus specifically on the claims raised by Dangote.

Dangote is expected to appear in person or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu James Onoja, when the investigation formally begins. He has also been asked to submit documentary evidence to support the allegations made in the petition.

Allegations Detailed

In the petition, Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, alleging that the former regulator spent millions of dollars on the education of his four children at exclusive schools in Switzerland without clear evidence of lawful income.

The petition also alleged that Ahmed undermined domestic refining efforts by colluding with international oil traders and importers through the continued issuance of petroleum import licences.

Resignation Does Not Halt Probe

Although Ahmed has since resigned from his position at the NMDPRA, the ICPC stated that his resignation does not affect the ongoing investigation.

The petition further claimed that over $7 million was expended on the education of Ahmed’s children abroad, allegedly beyond what could be justified by his known earnings as a public servant.

Dangote reportedly requested the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Ahmed, accusing him of living beyond his legitimate means while in public office.

ICPC Confirms Receipt of Petition

The ICPC’s spokesperson, John Okor Odey, confirmed that the Commission received the formal petition on December 16, 2025. The petition was submitted by Dangote through his legal counsel.

The investigation remains ongoing as the anti-corruption agency reviews the evidence and testimonies related to the allegations.
