The political situation in Rivers State escalated on Saturday as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, issued a firm warning to political stakeholders over the alleged misuse of public funds ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, who spoke during a thank-you visit to communities in Okrika Local Government Area, cautioned that no individual would be allowed to deploy Rivers State resources to influence future elections by mobilising voters from outside the state.

Although he did not mention names directly, his comments were widely viewed as a response to ongoing political tensions involving the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the broader leadership crisis in the state.

The FCT minister warned politicians who have recently begun publicly praising President Bola Tinubu that such gestures would not automatically translate into electoral tickets in 2027.

According to Wike, political slogans and public endorsements should not be mistaken for guaranteed political rewards.

He stressed that attempts to use public funds to hire or import voters from different regions of the country would fail, noting that similar strategies had already proven ineffective in previous elections.

Reflecting on the 2023 polls, Wike said voters had endured disappointments and were now more politically aware, adding that the mistakes of the past would not be repeated.

The minister urged residents of Rivers State to prioritise integrity, credibility, and character when choosing their leaders, rather than being swayed by political theatrics.

He maintained that President Tinubu had honoured agreements made during the last election cycle and encouraged voters to support leaders they could trust with governance and public resources.

Wike concluded by describing the current political alignment in the state as one that transcends party divisions, portraying it as a collective effort focused on stability, accountability, and shared political objectives.
