Afrobeats superstar Davido has finally broken his silence after reportedly losing a staggering $348,000 (about ₦495 million) following the Super Eagles’ heartbreaking defeat to Morocco at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Nigerian national team bowed out of the tournament on Wednesday night after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco, following a tense semi-final clash that ended 0–0 after extra time.

Davido’s High-Risk $50K Bet That Backfired

Before kickoff, Davido had confidently shared his betting slip online, revealing that he had staked $50,000, with a potential payout of $348,000, if Nigeria made it to the final.

“Nigerians to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip,” the singer wrote.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on Nigeria’s side.

Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the hero of the night, saving crucial penalties to send the Atlas Lions into the AFCON final and crash Davido’s big-money prediction.

Davido’s Reaction After the Loss

Rather than ranting or lamenting publicly, Davido took a calmer approach.

After the match, he shared a photo of himself winding down with a plate of grilled fish, moments before flying out of Morocco — a subtle but classy reaction that quickly went viral.

Social Media Explodes With Reactions

As expected, Nigerians had a lot to say about the lost bet:

  • @martinsafrikan.ng:
“If he had used the money to build shelter homes, generations would appreciate him. Celebrities and politicians are the same.”
  • @platomiami:
“Omo the risk eeh, all of us collect. No worry.”
  • @rosebeach444633:
“Lost which money? He’s an ambassador.”
  • @spaceonn_:
“It’s all promo for Stake. Believe it at your own risk.”
  • @mc_shortmang1:
“Money wey e suppose dash my papa.”

Big Loss or Just Another Flex?

While some fans believe Davido genuinely lost the huge sum, others insist the bet was part of a brand promotion deal, arguing that the singer remains unfazed either way.

One thing is certain:

Only Davido can lose nearly half a billion naira on a football match and still casually enjoy grilled fish like nothing happened.

Na OBO for a reason.
