IMG 9269 The NaijaWide NewsSenator Ned Munir Nwoko has released an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Ms Izuegbu Anthonet, popularly known as Ann, who is widely described as a close friend of actress Regina Daniels.

The senator, through his media team, stated that Ann’s arrest has nothing to do with social media drama, but is instead linked to serious criminal allegations currently under investigation by law enforcement agencies.

Alleged Criminal Defamation

According to the statement, Ann was arrested over allegedly defamatory claims she made publicly, accusing Senator Nwoko of physically assaulting his wife, Laila Nwoko, and causing a miscarriage.

The senator categorically denied the allegations, insisting that no such incident ever occurred, and describing the claims as false, damaging, and unsupported by evidence.

Allegations Involving Regina Daniels

Nwoko’s team further alleged that Ann is implicated in an ongoing investigation relating to the procurement of an illegal abortion involving Regina Daniels during her marriage to the senator.

They claimed the matter is documented and already before security agencies, stressing that investigations are ongoing and no conclusions have yet been reached.

Police Investigation Ongoing

The statement revealed that a formal witness report submitted to the Maitama Police Station in October 2025 detailed repeated alleged activities involving Ann and others, including claims related to illegal substances.

Authorities are said to be reviewing witness accounts, supporting details, and other evidence as part of the investigation.

What Led to the Arrest

According to Nwoko’s media team, Ann’s arrest followed a recent social media post in which she allegedly issued threats and repeated defamatory remarks against the senator and his family.

They emphasized that the arrest was based on law enforcement procedures, not an attempt to silence anyone.

“Not a Social Media Issue” — Nwoko

The senator stressed that the matter should not be misrepresented online, adding that he and his family will allow due process to take its full course.

He also urged the public to avoid rumours and speculation, and instead rely on verified information as investigations continue.

“This is a law enforcement matter grounded in evidence and due process, not a social media dispute,” the statement concluded.

The case remains under investigation, and no final determination has been made at this time.
