The mystery surrounding the death of fast-rising Nigerian singer Destiny Boy has deepened, following confirmation by the Ogun State Police Command that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

The police disclosed that the matter has now been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a full-scale and detailed investigation—fueling fresh public interest and speculation.

Police Confirm Arrest, Transfer Case to Homicide Section

In an official statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that investigations began immediately after the singer’s death was reported.

“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy,” the statement read.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

The confirmation of an arrest has intensified calls for transparency and justice, especially amid the flood of disturbing content circulating online.

Viral Videos Trigger Outrage, Grief and Questions

News of Destiny Boy’s death first broke on Sunday after distressing videos began trending across social media platforms.

In the clips, the late singer was seen lying motionless in the back of a vehicle while being transported to a mortuary, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.

The graphic visuals shocked fans, colleagues and the wider public, sparking emotional reactions and renewed demands for answers over what truly happened in his final hours.

Associate Speaks Out on Health Struggles

As rumours and unverified theories continued to spread, an unidentified associate of the late singer released a video urging Nigerians to stop speculating.

According to him, Destiny Boy had been battling a private health condition before his death.

“I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death,” he said.

“Destiny was nursing a health issue before he died. We tried everything for him, but he didn’t make it. May God rest his soul.”

Despite this claim, the police have maintained that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding his passing.

From Agege Streets to National Spotlight

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy carved out a unique lane in Nigeria’s music scene with his Fuji-inspired street sound.

He began his journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji legend Pasuma.

His major breakthrough came in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If. The cover went viral and launched him into the spotlight almost overnight.

He later followed up with notable covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, earning him a loyal fanbase.

Music, Fatherhood and a Life Cut Short

Destiny Boy went on to release original songs such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Off the stage, he embraced fatherhood. In November 2024, he welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide—a moment friends say meant everything to him.
