Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has gone viral after openly venting his frustration over what he described as excessive post-match media duties, following Nigeria’s third-place playoff at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Interviews Never End” — Chukwueze Fires Back
Speaking candidly in a now-trending clip, the 24-year-old forward lamented that media interviews continued long after the final whistle, even as players were already heading off the pitch.
“We’ll just talk and talk, everybody will be repeating the same thing. We have finished and someone is already inside the car, and they are still doing interviews again. Na third place we carry o, make we dey go home abeg,” he said.
Taking a lighter jab at the situation, Chukwueze jokingly added that the team might change tactics next time:
“Next time we go enter bus they go house or we order Uber instead.”
Criticism, Pressure, and a Tired Squad
Chukwueze’s outburst comes amid mixed reviews of his tournament performance and wider scrutiny of the Super Eagles’ AFCON campaign. Despite the criticism, many fans and analysts maintain that he remains one of Nigeria’s key attacking players, contributing meaningfully during the competition.
Fans React: “Let the Players Rest!”
His comments struck a chord online, with supporters debating the balance between media access and player welfare. While some felt the interviews are part of professional football, many defended Chukwueze’s right to vent after a demanding tournament.
Social media reactions:
