The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of allegedly squandering ₦2.9 billion on the recently held 50th anniversary celebration of Oyo State.

The allegation was contained in a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare.

APC Claims ₦90m Was Deducted From Each Local Government

According to the opposition party, the Makinde-led government allegedly deducted ₦90 million from the federal allocation of each of the 33 local government councils in the state to fund the anniversary celebration.

The party insisted the deductions alone amount to billions and questioned how the funds were used.

APC Questions How Over ₦3bn Was Spent

In the statement, APC said:

“We have it on good authority that a sum of N90 million was deducted from the federal allocation of each of the 33 local government councils by Gov. Makinde ostensibly to fund the anniversary project while another undisclosed amount was taken from the coffers of the state government for the same purpose…”

The party further asked:

“What did they do with over N3 billion?”

Party Slams Anniversary Activities

APC also criticised some activities carried out during the celebration, mentioning:

  • The air show

  • Award conferments

  • Ankara uniforms allegedly for PDP members

  • The novelty football match

As of the time of this report, the Oyo State Government has not issued an official response to the APC’s claims.
