IMG 9511 The NaijaWide NewsThe Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against what he described as possible foreign interference in Nigeria’s security affairs, urging the Federal Government to prioritise national interest in its international engagements.

In a statement released on Tuesday through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, the traditional ruler expressed concerns over external involvement in African security matters, warning that such interventions may carry hidden agendas.

Oluwo Raises Concerns Over US Engagement

Oba Akanbi specifically called for a careful review of Nigeria’s engagement with the United States, particularly in relation to security cooperation.

According to him, foreign involvement in domestic security operations could potentially deepen internal divisions rather than resolve existing challenges.

“The successes recorded by President Tinubu’s administration may not sit well with some Western powers. The current rise in banditry is suspicious and must be handled with caution,” the statement read.

He further urged African nations to be vigilant in their dealings with foreign governments, emphasizing the need for strategic independence.

Call for National Unity Against Banditry

Beyond foreign policy concerns, the monarch condemned the politicisation and religious framing of insecurity, stressing that unity is critical in tackling banditry and violent crime.

He noted that no country has successfully defeated insecurity while being divided along political or religious lines.

“Nigeria cannot win the fight against banditry if citizens are divided. Unity and cooperation are essential,” he stated.

The Oluwo encouraged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence and fostering stronger collaboration between local communities and law enforcement authorities.

Condolences Over Kwara Attack

Oba Akanbi also extended condolences to the people of Kwara State following the recent attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area.

He expressed concern over what he described as subdued national reactions to the incident, urging Nigerians to reflect on the importance of solidarity during times of crisis.

The monarch offered sympathies to the families of the victims, the Kwara State Government, and traditional leaders in the affected community.

Security Debate Intensifies

The statement adds to ongoing national conversations about Nigeria’s security strategy, foreign partnerships, and the need for stronger internal cohesion.

As the country continues efforts to address banditry and other security challenges, calls for both strategic diplomacy and national unity remain central to the debate.
