Relationship counsellor and cleric Kingsley Okonkwo has sparked widespread debate online after delivering a bold message to single men aged 28 and above on marriage, responsibility, and finances.
Speaking during a recent teaching, Okonkwo challenged the popular belief that many men delay marriage because they are not financially stable. According to him, the situation is often the reverse.
Marriage Forces Growth, He Says
In his words, the cleric explained that marriage can actually be a catalyst for financial progress rather than a reward for already being wealthy.
“If you’re a single man above 28, of course this is not casting iron, but generally speaking, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to marry.
Many single men think it’s because I don’t have money that I’m not married. No, it’s because you are not married, you don’t have money. Statistically, married people make more money than single people.”
Okonkwo argued that responsibility forces growth. While a single man can survive on the bare minimum, marriage removes that comfort zone.
“You Must Level Up”
According to him, once a man has a family depending on him, he is compelled to think bigger, work harder, and earn more.
“As a single man, you don’t have to make more money. But a married person, whether you like it or not, you have to make more money. And the way life works, once you set your mind that you have to do something, the circumstances and resources you need to do it come.”
He stressed that mindset and responsibility often unlock opportunities that single men may never feel pressured to pursue.
Money Is Not a Requirement for Marriage
The relationship coach further stated that marriage is not primarily about money. According to him, there are three key things a young man needs to get married — and money is not one of them.
He also referenced biblical principles, noting that certain life stages, including marriage, are meant to be embraced in one’s youth rather than postponed until old age.
