An eyewitness has shared a detailed account of the tragic road accident that claimed the life of popular photographer and biker Kola OniFoto on Sunday afternoon in Lagos.
The account was shared on Facebook by a user identified as Rita Egwu, who said she spoke directly with someone who witnessed the crash.
How the Accident Happened
According to the eyewitness, the accident occurred between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. shortly after she arrived in Lagos. Contrary to some early assumptions, she stated that the vehicle Kola collided with was not parked, but was actively making a U-turn at the time of the crash.
She recalled hearing another driver at the scene exclaim in shock, “Ahhh, the speed too much,” suggesting that speed may have contributed to the severity of the impact.
Kola Was Fully Kitted
The eyewitness emphasized that Kola was fully dressed in proper protective riding gear, from head to toe. She clarified that he was not casually dressed, but had taken safety precautions appropriate for motorcycle riding.
The vehicle involved in the crash was described as a light-brown (nude-coloured) Toyota Corolla. According to her account, the impact caused a dent on the passenger-side door and damaged the side mirror.
Immediate Response at the Scene
She said the driver of the Corolla immediately stopped after the collision, and together with other passengers, stepped out to assist Kola. At the time, he was reportedly still breathing, and those present attempted to see if CPR could be administered.
Emergency response was swift. An ambulance arrived at the scene within five minutes, followed closely by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The eyewitness noted that their rapid arrival suggested their office might be nearby and added that the quick response could bring some comfort to Kola’s family.
Aftermath and Public Reaction
The eyewitness also mentioned that several bystanders recorded the scene, although she said she could not bring herself to look closely due to the severity of the incident.
She only later realized the victim was someone she knew online after visiting Rita Egwu’s page, which prompted her to share what she saw.
Kola OniFoto, widely known for his photography work and love for motorcycles, has since been mourned by friends, colleagues, and followers across social media.
His sudden death has once again sparked conversations around road safety, speed, and the risks associated with motorcycle riding.
May his soul rest in peace.
