The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing increased security concerns following reports of alleged movements of United States forces in parts of West Africa.

Déby Orders Military Lockdown Along Nigerian Border

According to multiple military sources in N’Djamena, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno directed security agencies to enforce a full border lockdown after intelligence suggested that armed groups operating in Northern Nigeria were planning to infiltrate Chadian territory.

Reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama indicate that Chadian troops and armored vehicles have been deployed to major border routes, with forces now on high alert.

President Déby reportedly emphasized that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise.”

Chad Acts Amid Rising Regional Tensions

The border closure comes at a time of mounting regional anxiety over alleged U.S. military activity in the Sahel region, as well as fears of renewed militant operations along the Lake Chad Basin.

Security experts suggest that the move is a preventive measure to safeguard Chad’s sovereignty and curb possible cross-border infiltration by terrorist elements taking advantage of instability in neighboring countries.
