Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has denied allegations linking him to the ongoing online dispute between controversial activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.
The controversy began after King Mitchy renovated a public school within six days, a project she said received financial backing from Seyi Tinubu. The development later sparked an online confrontation with VeryDarkMan, who accused her of failing to properly account for public donations allegedly received since 2025.
As the dispute escalated, VeryDarkMan accused Seyi Tinubu of sponsoring Mitchy’s charity work and, in a video shared on his Instagram page, called on Nigerians to hold both Seyi Tinubu and Mitchy responsible should anything happen to him.
“The Allegations Are False”
Reacting to the claims in a series of posts on his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu dismissed the accusations as false and misleading.
“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’),” he wrote.
“Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”
He explained that his interaction with King Mitchy was limited to a single public meeting, during which he provided financial support to her non-governmental organisation as part of his broader commitment to youth empowerment initiatives across Nigeria.
According to him, a follow-up meeting to assess the impact of the donation was scheduled but did not take place due to health-related issues.
“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” Seyi Tinubu stated.
Concern Over Reputation and Online Harassment
Seyi Tinubu expressed concern that a feud he neither initiated nor participated in was being used to tarnish his reputation, adding that VeryDarkMan appeared to have seized the situation as an opportunity to attack him.
“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal,” he said.
He further condemned what he described as online bullying and harassment, warning that such actions could have serious mental health consequences.
“No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety,” he added.
Commitment to Philanthropy
Reaffirming his stance, Seyi Tinubu said that for more than a decade, through his foundation and personal efforts, he has supported initiatives in education, healthcare, enterprise, and youth development.
“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised,” he stated. “Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation.”
He concluded by calling for de-escalation, restraint, and a return to truth and responsibility, stressing that “character and work endure.”
