Armed bandits have launched a deadly attack on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State, leaving at least 30 people dead, with several others abducted and many injured.
Midnight Assault
A local source disclosed that the attack occurred late on Thursday night. According to the source, the assailants—described as heavily armed and riding motorcycles—blocked access roads into the village before opening fire indiscriminately on residents.
“We have counted no fewer than 30 dead bodies this morning, from the main road leading to Dutsin Ajiya village up to the town,” said a resident, Mallam Isah.
Residents Flee in Fear
The source added that many villagers sustained gunshot wounds during the attack, while others were taken away by the attackers. Fearing further violence, residents of Dutsin Dan Ajiya and neighboring communities have begun fleeing the area.
“As I’m talking to you, people in the community and surrounding villages are leaving in fear; children and women are crying,” he said.
Police Yet to Respond
Efforts to reach the Nigeria Police Force in Zamfara State were unsuccessful, as the police public relations officer could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
The attack adds to the growing insecurity in Zamfara State, which has witnessed repeated assaults by armed groups targeting rural communities, often resulting in mass casualties, abductions, and large-scale displacement.
