President Bola Tinubu has called on voters, security agencies, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain calm and ensure orderly conduct during elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the FCT, Kano, and Rivers States.
Electoral Coverage
According to DAILY POST, the elections will cover:
- FCT: All six area councils
- Rivers State: Bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies
- Kano State: Bye-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies
President’s Appeal
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged eligible voters to participate without fear, stressing that democracy thrives in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He called on political parties, candidates, and supporters to avoid violence, inflammatory statements, or actions that could undermine the credibility of the process. The President also warned against intimidation or measures that could disenfranchise voters, highlighting that security personnel are present to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the ballot.
Support for INEC
President Tinubu appealed to INEC to ensure:
- Timely voter accreditation
- Smooth voting processes
- Accurate collation and prompt transmission of results
All actions, he noted, must comply with the 2026 Electoral Act to bolster voters’ confidence.
“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections,” he said.
“To all residents of the FCT, Kano, and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation.”
The President’s message reinforces the government’s commitment to peaceful, transparent, and credible elections across the country.
