Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere and Omega Power Ministries have announced the suspension of plans for the marriage of his daughter, Chiemeka Chibuzor, following widespread reactions online.
The decision came shortly after the cleric publicly stated that he was seeking a husband for his 21 year old daughter, who is autistic.
Following the announcement, many men reportedly expressed interest, with some sending messages and videos declaring their intention to marry her and promising to care for her.
However, the move quickly generated criticism from members of the public and rights advocates, who raised concerns about consent, vulnerability, and the welfare of individuals living with disabilities.
As reactions intensified, the church confirmed on its official Facebook page that the proposed wedding had been suspended.
According to the statement, more than one thousand applications had been received before the decision was made.
The announcement added that no further steps would be taken until new directives are issued.
The development has also renewed discussions around an earlier marriage involving the cleric’s autistic son, with some members of the public calling for a review of the matter.
Disability rights advocates say cases involving vulnerable adults should always prioritise informed consent, welfare protection, and compliance with existing laws.
