The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the receipt of credible intelligence concerning a handwritten note allegedly dropped in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area, threatening a violent attack on the community.

The note, reportedly written in both Yoruba and English, is believed to have been authored by suspected bandits, sparking widespread concern among residents.

Commissioner Orders Immediate Security Overhaul

Following the intelligence report, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered the immediate activation of the Command’s intelligence, tactical and operational response architecture across the affected areas.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.

According to the statement, the State Intelligence Department (SID), working alongside tactical units, has begun intensive debriefing of individuals connected to the discovery of the note.

Heavy Security Deployment in Ikoyi-Ile

The police confirmed that operational assets have been fully deployed and repositioned within Ikoyi-Ile and surrounding communities.

Security measures now in place include:

  • Armed patrols
  • Stop-and-search operations
  • Intelligence surveillance
  • Strategic area domination

Police personnel have been placed on 24-hour high alert, with sustained ground presence aimed at preventing any criminal elements from exploiting the situation.

The Area Command has also been directed to maintain constant supervision and continuous patrol coverage across the axis.

Investigation Ongoing, Authenticity Under Review

The Command disclosed that a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation is underway to determine the origin, authenticity, and intent of the threatening note, stressing that all leads are being actively pursued.

Police Reassure Residents: “No Cause for Panic”

Despite the tension, CP Haruna reassured residents that robust security measures have already been put in place.

“The Command wishes to strongly and categorically reassure the good people of Ikoyi-Ile and residents across Oyo State that there is no cause for panic. Robust security measures have been fully activated and are already in place to safeguard lives and property,” the CP stated.

He added that residents would continue to witness increased police visibility and patrol presence, all aimed at guaranteeing peace and public safety.

Multi-Agency Collaboration Activated

The police also confirmed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure a unified and proactive security posture across Oyo State.

Emergency Lines Released

Residents were advised to promptly report suspicious movements or threats via:

  • Oyo State Call Response Centre (toll-free): 615
  • Police Command Control Room: 08081768614, 07055495413

The Command reiterated its resolve to prevent criminal threats from taking root in Oyo State and assured the public that security agencies remain fully in control of the situation.
