The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), USA chapter, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a step toward resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

In addition, the group urged the President to declare a six-month state of emergency in parts of Northern Nigeria affected by insurgency and banditry, warning that credible elections cannot be held in areas under terrorist control ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was made by the President and Chief Executive Officer of NADECO USA, Lloyd Ukwu, who alleged that Wike’s political activities are central to the instability in Rivers State.

According to Ukwu, peace will remain elusive unless decisive action is taken against the FCT Minister.

“The main problem in Rivers State today, as far as this crisis is concerned, is the Minister of the FCT. Rivers people know where the problem lies. The President must call him to order. Wike is his employee,” Ukwu said.

He argued that removing Wike from office would signal that President Tinubu does not endorse what he described as the minister’s overbearing influence in the political affairs of Rivers State.

Call for Emergency Rule in Terror-Hit Areas

NADECO USA also expressed concern over the security situation in parts of Northern Nigeria, insisting that the presence of insurgents and bandits poses a serious threat to democratic processes.

The group warned that conducting elections in areas controlled by armed groups would undermine the credibility of the 2027 polls.

It therefore called on the Federal Government to impose a temporary state of emergency in affected regions to restore security and ensure conditions suitable for free and fair elections.
