The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) at several of its retail outlets across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Checks conducted on Monday morning showed that petrol is now selling at ₦815 per litre, down from ₦835, representing a ₦20 reduction.

Quiet Implementation Across Abuja

The new price has already taken effect at multiple NNPCL filling stations, including outlets in Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and on the Kubwa Expressway.

Fuel attendants at the stations confirmed that the adjustment was implemented quietly on Sunday evening, following a directive from NNPCL management. Sales were immediately adjusted to reflect the new pump price.

Private Marketers Sell Cheaper Fuel

Despite the reduction, NNPCL’s pump price remains higher than what is currently offered by some private marketers.

At MRS Oil Nigeria filling stations supplied by the Dangote Refinery, petrol is selling for ₦739 per litre, creating a price difference of ₦79 per litre compared to NNPCL outlets.

Growing Competition in the Downstream Market

Industry analysts say the ongoing price adjustments reflect increasing competition in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, driven largely by the availability of locally refined fuel and shifting supply dynamics.

NNPCL had earlier reduced petrol prices by ₦80 on December 19, 2025, shortly after Dangote Refinery cut its gantry price to ₦699 per litre, a move that forced marketers nationwide to revise their pump prices.
