A 200-level student of Obafemi Awolowo University, David Ojuko Adefesobi, has filed a N15 million lawsuit against a fellow student, Adeife, who had publicly accused him of rape.
The lawsuit follows Adeife’s retraction and public apology for making the false claim.
According to a letter from David’s legal team, Adeife allegedly accused him of rape around February 17, 2026, and circulated his phone number across social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
The lawyers described the allegation as false, malicious, and reckless, noting that it exposed David to public ridicule, contempt, and damage to his reputation among family, peers, and professional contacts.
Impact on David
The legal team emphasized that the false accusation led to loss of business contracts, sustained online harassment, threats, and emotional distress. They also pointed out that repeated sharing of screenshots and reposts has intensified the reputational harm.
While Adeife issued a video apology, David’s lawyers stressed that the damage caused by the original publication cannot be undone by a mere retraction.
Demands from David
David’s legal team has demanded the following from Adeife:
- A written and public apology acknowledging that the allegation was false.
- Immediate removal of all defamatory content from all platforms.
- A written undertaking not to make any further defamatory statements.
- Payment of N15 million in damages for defamation, emotional distress, and reputational harm.
The letter further warned that failure to comply within 14 days would prompt legal action, including claims for aggravated damages, injunctive relief, and other remedies provided under Nigerian law.
