IMG 9126 The NaijaWide NewsTension has gripped Ekpoma, Edo State, following the remand of 52 Ambrose Alli University (AAU) students by a court over their alleged involvement in a protest against rising kidnapping and insecurity in the area.

According to reports, the students were arrested late at night from various hostels across Ekpoma after a protest held last Saturday to draw attention to the worsening security situation in Esan West Local Government Area.

The demonstration was reportedly organised in response to growing complaints by residents, who claim that several people have been kidnapped from their homes in recent weeks.

Students who spoke anonymously said the arrests were carried out during a coordinated night operation, alleging that police officers stormed multiple hostels and arrested students indiscriminately.

Following their arrest, the students were arraigned in court and subsequently remanded in prison custody for 14 days, pending further legal proceedings.

The development has triggered anxiety and outrage within the Ambrose Alli University community, with many expressing concern over the handling of the protest and the broader issue of insecurity in Ekpoma.

As tension continues to rise, students and residents are calling for urgent intervention, justice, and improved security measures in the university town.
