Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has terminated the employment of its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following widespread online allegations accusing him of inappropriate sexual conduct with a junior employee.

Olubi confirmed his dismissal in a personal blog post published on Saturday, November 23, 2025, stating that the company took action before concluding its internal investigation.

How the Allegations Began

The controversy erupted in mid-November after a viral social media post accused Olubi of abusive behavior. The post reignited public scrutiny as users recirculated several explicit tweets allegedly linked to him, some dating as far back as 2009.

Following the online uproar, Paystack announced that the co-founder had been suspended pending a formal review. The company also revealed that it intended to appoint an independent investigator to evaluate the claims.

Olubi Rejects the Process, Hints at Legal Action

In his blog post, Olubi said he was neither contacted for a meeting nor given the opportunity to defend himself before being removed from his role.

He suggested that the dismissal violated the conditions of his suspension and contradicted the company’s internal procedures.

“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies. They will take the steps they consider appropriate,” he wrote, adding that he would not comment further.

Public Pressure Intensifies as Old Tweets Resurface

Paystack—acquired by global payments company Stripe in 2020—has faced significant public pressure as screenshots of Olubi’s old explicit posts continued to circulate widely.

The resurfaced tweets, containing sexually suggestive jokes and comments, sparked renewed conversations about workplace ethics and accountability within Africa’s fast-growing tech ecosystem.

Awaiting Official Response From Paystack and Stripe

As of the time of filing this report, Paystack has not released a new statement addressing Olubi’s claims about the termination process.

It also remains unclear whether Stripe, the parent company, will intervene or issue a separate comment.

Tech analysts say any legal action by Olubi could lead to further disclosures or even court proceedings that may provide clarity on what transpired behind the scenes.

Efforts by Techpoint Africa to obtain Paystack’s reaction were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
