A 17-year-old boy, Teddy Onwuchekwa, has reached out to popular Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan for help in locating his estranged Nigerian father, decades after he disappeared from his life.
Teen Shares Emotional Story
Teddy, who was born and raised in London, said his father left when he was just two years old, leaving him with no contact details or clear information about his whereabouts.
Despite repeated attempts over the years, the teenager said all efforts to trace his father have been unsuccessful.
In an emotional message sent to VeryDarkMan, Teddy wrote:
“Good evening VeryDarkMan, my name is Teddy Onwuchekwa and I’m 17 years old. I am London-born of an English mother and a Nigerian father. His name is Derrick Onwuchekwa. He left when I was 2 years old and I don’t know where he is or how I can find him.
I’d be very happy if you help me locate him. I have pictures of my granddad and my father to help locate him.”
VeryDarkMan Takes Up the Case
Reacting to the plea, VeryDarkMan shared Teddy’s story on his social media platforms and displayed photographs said to be of Teddy’s father, Derrick Onwuchekwa, and his grandfather.
He appealed to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to help circulate the images and provide any useful information that could lead to reconnecting the family.

The activist urged anyone who recognizes the individuals in the photographs or has knowledge of the Onwuchekwa family to come forward, stressing that even small details could help reunite a father and son after many years apart.
The story has since sparked emotional reactions online, with many users praising Teddy’s courage and commending VeryDarkMan for using his platform to assist in family reunification efforts.
