Manchester City have won their first trophy of the season after defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final played at Wembley Stadium.
The victory gives Pep Guardiola’s side an important boost after their UEFA Champions League campaign ended earlier in the week following their elimination by Real Madrid in the round of 16.
Arsenal entered the final with hopes of keeping their chances alive in multiple competitions this season, but they were unable to break down City’s defense in a tightly contested match.
The first half ended without a goal, with both teams playing cautiously and creating few clear scoring opportunities.
Manchester City took the lead shortly after the break when goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga failed to properly control the ball, allowing Nico O’Reilly to head into an empty net.
O’Reilly later scored his second goal of the match to secure the victory for City and confirm them as Carabao Cup champions.
Despite the win, Manchester City still trail Arsenal by nine points in the Premier League table as the league season continues.
