Mixed reactions have followed a trending video on X showing members of the City Boys Movement distributing bags of rice to motorists and passers by in Ekiti State.
In the video circulating online, the group was seen sharing 25kg bags of rice with people on a busy road, an action that quickly attracted attention on social media.
Some users described the gesture as support for citizens facing economic hardship, while others criticised it and said such efforts do not solve long term economic problems.
An X user identified as Bassee, a product designer, said the distribution does not address the real challenges facing the country.
According to him, good governance should focus on reducing corruption, improving security, supporting farmers, and creating employment opportunities rather than sharing food items.
Another user, Akanni, reacted to the discussion online and linked the reactions to political differences among social media users.
A different user known as Abegistan made a humorous comment, while OdDz stated that food distribution may help for a short time but will not fix issues such as poor roads, electricity problems, and insecurity.
Ruby Dennis also questioned the priorities behind such actions, saying that improving infrastructure, healthcare, electricity supply, and the business environment would have a more lasting impact on citizens.
Another user, Bigbank0125omaalaje, shared a critical opinion, saying short term relief items cannot replace policies that improve living conditions.
Augie, another commenter, said citizens should accept the food but remain focused on making long term decisions that will improve the country’s future.
WaGml also reacted, urging people to remember the situation in the future when making political choices.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the organisers of the rice distribution regarding the purpose of the exercise.
