President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.
The reappointment was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, the new term took effect on Friday, February 27.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term,” the statement read.
Audi, who was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, completed his initial tenure last Friday during activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
He is expected to resume duties on Monday with what the presidency described as a “renewed mandate.”
Strengthening National Security
President Tinubu, according to the statement, tasked Audi with repositioning the NSCDC to play a more prominent role in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, particularly as the Nigeria Police refocus on combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
